Grade 10 Business Studies.
This Grade 10 Business Studies course introduces students to the dynamic world of business, exploring fundamental concepts, functions, and the role of entrepreneurship. Students will develop a foundational understanding of personal finance, marketing, and human resources to prepare them for future economic participation in Canada.

01Business Fundamentals
Students explore how businesses function, the various forms of ownership, and the ethical responsibilities companies have within their communities.
An introduction to needs, wants, and how businesses satisfy consumer demands while impacting the local and global economy.
An examination of sole proprietorships, partnerships, corporations, and franchises, including their advantages and disadvantages.
An analysis of ethical dilemmas in business and the importance of corporate social responsibility in modern enterprises.

02Functions of a Business
This unit breaks down the core operational areas of a business, including human resources, marketing, and accounting.
Students investigate the role of human resources, including hiring, training, compensation, and employee rights in the workplace.
An exploration of the marketing mix (the 4 Ps), advertising strategies, and how businesses influence consumer purchasing decisions.
An introduction to basic accounting principles, financial statements, and the importance of tracking business revenue and expenses.

03Entrepreneurship
Students learn about the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs, the innovation process, and how to develop a viable business plan.
An analysis of the skills, traits, and characteristics that define successful entrepreneurs and their impact on the economy.
Students differentiate between invention and innovation, exploring how businesses improve existing products to meet consumer needs.
A practical guide to creating a business plan, including market research, financial projections, and operational strategies.

04Personal Finance
This unit equips students with essential financial literacy skills, covering income, budgeting, banking, and credit management.
Students learn how to track personal income, create effective budgets, and set short-term and long-term financial goals.
An overview of the Canadian banking system, types of accounts, and the services provided by financial institutions.
An examination of how credit works, the cost of borrowing, and basic investment vehicles like stocks, bonds, and mutual funds.
