THE STORY
Why Flip Education Exists
There are decades of research proving that active learning works. Freeman et al.’s landmark 2014 meta-analysis across 225 studies showed students in active learning courses were 1.5x less likely to fail. The evidence has never been the problem.
The problem was that every new EdTech tool claiming to “revolutionize” the classroom was doing the opposite. Quiz apps. Gamified platforms. AI tutors. Every one put another screen between students and real learning. The classroom was getting more passive, not less, just with better lighting effects.
As a classroom teacher, the gap was maddening. Designing a Socratic seminar, a mock trial, or an escape room for a single topic takes hours. Multiply that across a full curriculum and it becomes impossible. So most teachers default to what’s fast: lecture, worksheet, quiz.
