Year 5 Languages (LOTE)
This course develops communicative proficiency through immersive cultural contexts and functional language use. Students build confidence in social interactions and explore how language shapes identity and community belonging across different cultures.

Meeting and Greeting
Students master the art of first impressions by learning formal and informal social protocols. This unit focuses on establishing personal identity and understanding social hierarchies through language.
Exploring the nuances of greeting different people based on age, status, and relationship. Students learn to navigate formal and informal speech registers.
Developing the ability to share personal information and introduce peers using appropriate pronouns and possessive adjectives.
Investigating the physical actions that accompany speech, such as bowing, handshakes, or eye contact, and their meanings across cultures.

My Daily Rhythm
Students describe their daily routines and compare their lifestyles with peers in target-language countries. Focus is placed on time-telling and habitual actions.
Learning to express time and dates to schedule activities and understand cultural timelines.
Building a vocabulary of reflexive verbs and common actions to describe a typical day from waking up to sleeping.
Discussing household tasks and the concept of helping within the family unit across different cultures.

The Global Plate
An exploration of food, dining etiquette, and regional cuisines. Students learn to order food and express preferences while discovering the cultural significance of meals.
Identifying fresh ingredients and navigating a traditional market setting in a target-language country.
Practicing the language needed to read a menu, place an order, and interact with restaurant staff.

Navigating My World
