JC 2 Art.
H1 Art at the JC2 level deepens students' critical understanding of visual arts and refines their studio practice. Students will engage critically with local and international artworks, developing visual literacy and preparing for their final A-Level examinations.

01Advanced Study of Visual Arts (SOVA) - Modernity and Identity
Students critically analyse how modernity and cultural identity are expressed in both Western and Southeast Asian art contexts.
Students explore how Southeast Asian artists construct and express cultural identity in response to post-colonial contexts. They will analyse key regional artworks to understand local narratives.
An examination of how industrialisation and modern philosophies shifted artistic paradigms in the West. Students will trace the evolution of key modern art movements.
Students develop critical frameworks to compare and contrast artworks from different cultural and historical contexts. Emphasis is placed on formal analysis and contextual interpretation.

02Studio Practice - Conceptualisation and Development
Students initiate and develop their final studio project, focusing on rigorous ideation and material exploration.
Students initiate their JC2 final studio project by brainstorming and mapping out conceptual themes. They will document their initial thought processes in their preparatory studies.
A practical phase where students experiment with various media to find the best fit for their conceptual goals. They will document their trials and material discoveries.
Students refine their selected ideas and begin producing a cohesive series or a major piece. Focus is on sustaining a visual inquiry over an extended period.

03Critical Responses and Exhibition
Students learn to articulate their artistic intentions and prepare their works for professional presentation and peer review.
Students learn to articulate the intentions, processes, and meanings behind their studio work. They will draft and refine their personal artist statements.
An introduction to how artworks are curated, displayed, and contextualised in an exhibition setting. Students will plan the presentation of their final studio project.
Students engage in structured peer critique sessions to evaluate each other's works in progress. They will use the feedback to make final refinements to their projects.

04Synthesis and Examination Preparation
Comprehensive preparation for the A-Level examinations, finalising both the SOVA written component and the Studio Practice coursework.
Focused preparation for the A-Level SOVA written examination, emphasising essay structure and argumentation. Students will practice writing under timed conditions.
Students finalise their preparatory boards, ensuring a clear and logical flow of their artistic journey. They will select and arrange their best developmental work.
The concluding phase of the studio practice where students add finishing touches to their final artwork. Emphasis is on technical proficiency and conceptual clarity.
A simulated A-Level exhibition where students present their complete body of work and written papers for final review. This serves as a comprehensive mock assessment.
