English
This course develops foundational literacy skills through immersive engagement with oral language, phonological awareness, and diverse text types. Students transition from emergent reading to independent decoding while building a rich vocabulary and a love for creative storytelling.

Mathematics
This course develops first class students' fluency with numbers up to 100 while fostering spatial reasoning and data literacy. Students engage in hands-on exploration to build a deep conceptual understanding of how mathematics describes the world around them.

Science
A hands-on introduction to scientific inquiry where students observe patterns in nature, test the properties of materials, and explore how energy moves. This course emphasizes the development of process skills through active investigation and outdoor exploration.

Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE)
Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) provides particular opportunities to foster the personal development, health, and well-being of the individual child. In First Class, children explore their own identity, learn to build positive relationships, and develop a sense of responsibility for themselves and their community.

Visual Arts
This course introduces 1st Class students to the fundamental elements of art through hands-on making and responding. Students explore diverse media including paint, clay, and textiles while developing their visual literacy and creative expression.
