Grade 4 French / Modern Languages
This course introduces Grade 4 students to the French language through immersive, communicative activities. Students develop basic proficiency in listening and speaking while exploring the diverse cultural landscapes of the French-speaking world.

Greetings and Personal Identity
Students learn to introduce themselves and others while navigating social etiquette in various Francophone contexts.
Mastering formal and informal greetings and understanding when to use each based on social hierarchy.
Sharing personal information including name, age, and origins using basic sentence structures.
Identifying and communicating emotions and physical states to express well-being.

School Life and Learning
Exploring the daily routines, subjects, and objects found within a typical Francophone classroom.
Naming and describing the utility of items found in a student's backpack and desk.
Discussing school subjects, preferences, and the timing of the school day.
Understanding and executing common classroom commands and requests.

Family and Home Connections
Describing family structures, pets, and the physical environment of various types of homes.
Identifying family members and exploring the diversity of family trees.
Learning to describe household pets and their characteristics.

An exploration of French and Francophone culinary habits, meals, and table manners.
Identifying foods eaten for breakfast, lunch, and dinner in French-speaking countries.

Exploring special foods associated with Francophone holidays and festivals.

The World Around Us
Focusing on weather, seasons, and clothing to discuss the environment and travel.
Describing weather patterns and identifying the four seasons.
Matching clothing items to weather conditions and specific activities.
Identifying French-speaking places on a map and discussing where one would like to go.
