Grade 11 Entrepreneurship.
This Grade 11 Entrepreneurship course introduces students to the world of business and the characteristics of successful entrepreneurs. Students will develop a comprehensive venture plan, learning how to evaluate opportunities, conduct market research, and manage financial resources. The curriculum aligns with Canadian provincial standards, equipping students with practical skills for future business endeavours.

01Enterprising People and Entrepreneurs
Students explore the traits of successful entrepreneurs and evaluate their own entrepreneurial potential.
Students explore the key traits, skills, and mindsets that define successful entrepreneurs. They will analyse how these characteristics contribute to business success and resilience.
Students assess their personal strengths and weaknesses in relation to entrepreneurial skills. They will create a personal development plan to build their business acumen.
Students investigate how entrepreneurs drive economic growth and solve social problems. They will examine historical and contemporary Canadian entrepreneurs.

02Ideas and Opportunities
Students learn to generate business ideas, evaluate market trends, and distinguish between innovation and invention.
Students apply creative-thinking strategies to brainstorm potential venture ideas. They will learn to identify everyday problems that can inspire entrepreneurial solutions.
Students conduct preliminary market research to determine the viability of their business ideas. They will analyse current trends and consumer demands in the Canadian market.
Students explore the relationship between innovation, invention, and entrepreneurship. They will also learn about intellectual property protection in Canada.

03The Venture Plan - Preparation and Marketing
Students begin drafting their venture plans, focusing on target markets, competitive analysis, and marketing strategies.
Students are introduced to the essential elements of a comprehensive venture plan. They will understand the purpose of the plan for both internal guidance and external investment.
Students identify their target market and develop a marketing strategy using the 4 Ps. They will explore digital and traditional marketing methods suitable for a new venture.
Students learn to identify direct and indirect competitors in their chosen market. They will conduct a SWOT analysis to establish a competitive advantage.

04The Venture Plan - Operations and Finance
Students finalize their venture plans by determining resource requirements, creating financial forecasts, and pitching their ideas.
Students determine the physical, human, and technological resources required to launch their venture. They will also review the legal requirements for starting a business in Canada.
Students estimate start-up costs and create cash flow projections for their venture. They will learn to calculate the break-even point to ensure financial viability.
Students synthesize their venture plan into a compelling business pitch. They will present their ideas to an audience and incorporate feedback to refine their strategy.
