Class 4 Fine Arts
An integrated arts curriculum for Class 4 students that explores the intersection of visual arts, traditional Indian crafts, and performing arts. Students develop technical skills in drawing and rhythm while exploring cultural heritage through hands-on creation and critical appreciation.

01Elements of Visual Arts: Form and Expression
Students will delve into the foundational elements of visual arts, focusing on how lines, shapes, and forms create expressive compositions. This unit emphasizes observation, spatial reasoning, and the translation of natural and man-made forms into artistic representations.
Students will analyze how different types of lines (curved, straight, thick, thin) convey emotions, movement, and direction in various artworks.
Students will compare and contrast geometric and organic shapes, exploring their presence in nature and man-made objects, and their use in artistic design.
Students will observe and analyze patterns of symmetry and asymmetry in natural forms, applying these principles to create balanced and dynamic compositions.
Students will arrange and sketch still life setups, focusing on principles of composition, proportion, and spatial relationships between objects.
Students will learn basic one-point perspective techniques to create the illusion of depth and three-dimensionality on a two-dimensional surface.
Students will explore various shading techniques (hatching, cross-hatching, stippling, blending) to create value scales and render three-dimensional forms.
Students will learn fundamental human figure proportions and practice sketching simplified figures to understand balance and movement.
Students will explore the art of beautiful handwriting, practicing basic strokes and letterforms from traditional Indian or Western calligraphy.
Students will construct a color wheel, identifying primary, secondary, and tertiary colors, and exploring basic color harmonies like analogous and complementary schemes.
Students will investigate the psychological and visual effects of warm and cool colors, applying them to create depth and emotion in their artwork.
Students will learn to mix tints (adding white), tones (adding grey), and shades (adding black) to a hue, understanding how value changes affect color perception.
Students will explore the difference between actual textures (tactile) and implied textures (visual illusion) through collage, frottage, and drawing techniques.
Students will experiment with various materials (sand, fabric, found objects) to create actual textures in mixed media artworks, focusing on tactile and visual impact.
Students will practice fundamental watercolor techniques, including flat washes, graded washes, and layering, to create translucent effects and build depth.
Students will explore acrylic painting, focusing on blending techniques for smooth transitions and impasto for creating thick, textured surfaces.
Students will create landscape paintings, focusing on using color, value, and atmospheric perspective to convey mood and depth.
Students will explore basic digital art software, learning about layers, brushes, and color palettes to create simple digital illustrations.
Students will delve deeper into Warli painting, analyzing its symbolic figures, geometric patterns, and narratives of community life and nature.
Students will study the intricate details, vibrant colors, and mythological themes prevalent in Madhubani painting, understanding its cultural context.
Students will explore Gond painting from Madhya Pradesh, focusing on its distinctive dot and dash patterns, vibrant colors, and narratives inspired by nature and folklore.
Students will engage in traditional clay modeling, creating functional or decorative forms inspired by Indian terracotta traditions, focusing on hand-building techniques.
Students will learn the basics of block printing, designing simple motifs, carving them into blocks, and printing patterns on fabric or paper.

02Rhythm, Melody, and Performance
This unit expands on musical fundamentals, introducing more complex rhythmic structures, melodic concepts, and the cultural significance of Indian musical instruments and vocal traditions. Students will also explore movement and drama as forms of artistic expression.
