3rd Class Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE).
Social, Personal and Health Education (SPHE) provides particular opportunities to foster the personal development, health, and well-being of the individual child. In Third Class, children explore their own identity, develop healthy relationships, and learn to make responsible decisions as active citizens in their local community.

01Myself: Self-Identity and Feelings
Children explore their unique traits, talents, and emotions while understanding how they grow and change. This unit builds self-awareness, positive self-esteem, and emotional literacy.

Children learn to recognise a wider range of emotions in themselves and others. They practice expressing their feelings in appropriate and healthy ways.

02Myself: Health and Well-being
This unit focuses on taking care of the body through healthy eating, personal hygiene, and safety. Children learn practical strategies to protect their physical health and well-being.
Children investigate the food pyramid and the importance of a balanced diet. They explore how different foods provide energy for growth and activity.
Children learn about the importance of personal hygiene routines for preventing illness. They discuss dental care, handwashing, and general cleanliness.
Children identify potential hazards in their environment and learn strategies for staying safe. They discuss road safety, water safety, and knowing when to ask for help.

03Myself and Others: My Friends and Family
Children examine their relationships with family members and peers. They develop skills for making friends, showing empathy, and resolving conflicts constructively.
Children explore the different types of families and the roles each member plays. They discuss how they can contribute positively to family life.
Children discuss the qualities of a good friend and how to build strong friendships. They explore the importance of inclusion, sharing, and empathy.
Children learn constructive ways to handle disagreements and conflicts with peers. They practice active listening, compromise, and saying sorry.

04Myself and the Wider World: Active Citizenship
Children learn about their role in the local community and the wider world. They explore environmental care, media awareness, and what it means to be a responsible citizen.
Children explore their local community and the people who live and work there. They discuss what it means to be an active and responsible citizen.
Children investigate environmental issues such as litter, recycling, and energy conservation. They learn how their actions can protect the local and global environment.
Children begin to critically examine the media they consume, including television, internet, and advertising. They discuss how media can influence their choices and feelings.
