Year 11 Business.
This Year 11 Business curriculum prepares students for their GCSE examinations by exploring the dynamic environment in which businesses operate. Students will develop a critical understanding of business operations, finance, marketing, and human resources, equipping them with essential skills for future enterprise or employment.

01Business Operations
Students explore how businesses produce goods and services, focusing on production methods, quality management, and the supply chain.
Students explore job, batch, and flow production methods. They will evaluate which method is most appropriate for different types of businesses.
This topic covers the importance of quality in business operations. Students will differentiate between quality control and quality assurance.
Students investigate the role of procurement and managing the supply chain. They will understand how supplier relationships affect business success.

02Financial Management
This unit introduces the financial concepts necessary for business survival, including sources of finance, cash flow forecasting, and break-even analysis.
Students will identify internal and external sources of finance available to businesses. They will evaluate the suitability of each source for different scenarios.
This topic introduces cash flow forecasts and their importance for business survival. Students will learn to interpret and construct simple cash flow statements.
Students will calculate and interpret break-even points and profit margins. They will use these metrics to assess a business's financial health.

03Human Resources
Students will learn how businesses manage their workforce, covering organisational structures, recruitment, motivation, and training.
Students examine different organisational structures and their impact on communication. They will explore concepts like span of control and chain of command.
This topic covers the recruitment process, from identifying a vacancy to selecting a candidate. Students will compare internal and external recruitment methods.
Students will explore financial and non-financial methods of motivation. They will understand the benefits of a motivated workforce to a business.
Students investigate the importance of training employees. They will evaluate the benefits of on-the-job versus off-the-job training.

04Marketing
This unit focuses on how businesses identify and satisfy customer needs through market research and the marketing mix.
Students will learn about primary and secondary market research methods. They will analyse how businesses use research to understand customer needs.
This topic explores the 4Ps of the marketing mix: Product, Price, Place, and Promotion. Students will understand how these elements interact to create a successful marketing strategy.
Students will examine the stages of the product life cycle and extension strategies. They will analyse how the marketing mix changes throughout a product's life.

05The Wider Business Environment
Students will explore external factors that impact business operations, including ethical considerations, the economic climate, and legislation.
Students will explore the ethical and environmental impacts of business activity. They will consider the trade-offs between profit and ethical behaviour.
This topic covers how changes in the economic climate affect businesses. Students will look at interest rates, inflation, and exchange rates.
Students will investigate the impact of legislation on business operations. They will focus on employment law, consumer law, and health and safety.
