Secondary 2 Literature in English.
The Secondary 2 Literature in English curriculum aims to deepen students' appreciation of literary texts and their understanding of the human condition. Students will engage critically with prose, poetry, and drama, developing their analytical skills and empathetic responses to diverse perspectives.

01Exploring Narrative Prose
Students delve into the mechanics of storytelling in short stories and novels. They will analyze how authors construct plots, develop characters, and establish settings to convey deeper meanings.
Examine how authors sequence events to build tension and shape the narrative arc. Students will map out plot structures and evaluate the impact of pacing on the reader.
Analyze the methods authors use to bring characters to life, including direct description, dialogue, and actions. Students will infer character motivations and track their development.
Investigate the role of setting in establishing mood and influencing character behavior. Students will explore how physical and social environments shape the narrative.
Evaluate the impact of different narrative perspectives on the reader's understanding of the story. Students will compare first-person, third-person limited, and omniscient viewpoints.

02The Power of Poetry
Students explore the condensed and evocative nature of poetry. They will analyze poetic forms, imagery, and sound devices to uncover thematic depth.
Introduce various poetic forms, such as sonnets, free verse, and ballads. Students will examine how the structure of a poem contributes to its overall meaning.
Learn how to analyse character development and motivations in literary texts.
Investigate the auditory elements of poetry, including meter, rhyme schemes, alliteration, and assonance. Students will consider how sound reinforces the poem's tone.
Synthesize the analysis of form, imagery, and sound to interpret the central themes of various poems. Students will articulate their personal responses to the poets' messages.

03Drama and Performance
Students engage with dramatic texts, focusing on how plays are written for performance. They will analyze dialogue, stage directions, and character interactions.
Examine the role of stage directions in guiding actors and shaping the visual elements of a play. Students will visualize how dramatic action unfolds on stage.
Analyze the spoken words of characters to uncover hidden meanings and underlying tensions. Students will explore the concept of subtext in dramatic dialogue.
Learn how to analyse poetry, including poetic devices, structure, and themes.

04Thematic Connections Across Texts
Students synthesize their learning by comparing themes across different literary genres. They will explore universal human experiences and societal issues depicted in literature.
Explore how different texts address the search for identity and the desire for belonging. Students will compare characters' journeys of self-discovery.
Analyze the various forms of conflict, internal, interpersonal, and societal, presented in literature. Students will evaluate the effectiveness of different resolutions.
Investigate the tension between individual desires and societal norms across multiple texts. Students will critically examine the authors' critiques of society.
Develop skills in comparative literary analysis by examining how different authors approach similar themes. Students will construct well-supported arguments drawing on multiple texts.
